What is graphic design
For this task i was asked to write a brief for a project that defines what i consider Graphic Design to be . As
a graphic design student idea is key for me.
My project would be collage of different visuals that would be classified as graphic design. An example of how my project would look like.before starting this task, i did some research of what graphic design is and what it consists of .
Graphic design is a creative process—most often involving a client and a designer and usually completed in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, signmakers, etc.) undertaken in order to convey a specific message or messages to a targeted audience.
The field as a whole is also often referred to as Visual Communication or Communication Design. Various methods are used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages.
A graphic designer may use a combination of Typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.
Throughout the years of studying graphics design as a student and as a freelance, i consider graphics design could be anything that communicates to the audience visually for example moving images, logos, shapes, colours, patterns, newspapers and magazines. I think graphic design is a collage of static images, 3d and 2d objects, typography which was mentioned earlier on.
the images above shows various graphics work which i found on the internet. In most of the images, there are always typography, shapes, colours and purpose of the image.
Aim
My aim for this project would be to create a poster of what can be classified as graphics design
For my poster I showed all the work I have done for clients including poster, flyers, websites layout, album
covers e.t.c. I thought about graphic design being a collage of shapes, typography and images.before creating the poster, I decided to present my work through the use of a mirror and the reason for this is by looking at the mirror I can see a collage of work which i think stands as a visual communication
Pictures taken by me for this task
First draft of my poster
This was the first idea I came up with and I got a feedback from my tutor regarding this poster. I had to remove the image and treat the poster as a mirror and another person can pick it up and look through my mirror of graphic design
Final draft of my poster
The image above is my final poster of what I think graphic design is .
Mirror (My Home)
For this task, I was asked to create a visual description of my home.I decided to use a blueprint theme
to represent my home. the image below shows a rough blueprint of my home which is a two bedroom house
in Stratford,London. my main idea was to use different colours to show my most spent time which is my room.
Original Idea (Ping Plus mobile App)
For this task, i was asked to come up with an original idea. this task was difficult because most idea I came up with as been create. The original idea I came up with was a blackberry app which enables users to have an extra feature on the blackberry messenger. Typography Poster/Billboards and Tshirt
I was given a quote from my tutor and was expected to make a typography design from the quote. The quote was "If You Can Count Your Money You Done Have A Billion Dollars" By J.Paul Getty
Before i started creating my poster i did some research in typography posters shown bellow which inspired me in creating my own design.
By looking at other typography designs, i was able to get an idea of what to create and in order to express the quote in a typographical way, I did some research about J. Paul Getty who was an american billionaire and he involves around money. A dollar bill came to my mind which would relate to the quote.
with the use of a dollar font type, colour and shape of a dollar bill I was able to design my quote to look like the following poster below .
“If you can count your money, you don’t have a billion dollars.”
Biography
By J.Paul Getty (1892-1976)
Jean Paul Getty (December 15, 1892 – June 6, 1976) was an American industrialist. He founded the Getty Oil Company, and in 1957 Fortune magazine named him the richest living American, whilst the 1966 Guinness Book of Records named him as the world's richest private citizen, worth an estimated $1,200 million. At his death, he was worth more than $2 billion.
Getty was an avid collector of art and antiquities; his collection formed the basis of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California, and over $661 million of his estate was left to the museum after his death.
Born into George Getty's family in the petroleum business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was one of the first people in the world with a fortune estimated at over one billion U.S. dollars.
Before i started creating my poster i did some research in typography posters shown bellow which inspired me in creating my own design.
